Hello from Library Land
We have had a brilliant few weeks here at Dorking Library. From 12th April we have been open for browsing and it has been a joy welcoming people back into the library. It is lovely to catch up with our customers and one thing has been abundantly clear – the library may have been closed but our customers’ have remained voracious readers! We love discussing all things books and some of our borrowers have kindly reviewed their recent reads and we would love to share their recommendations with you.
If you reserve a book you may find a Mini Book Review slip inside and we would love to know your thoughts on what you have read. You can also ask for a slip at the helpdesk if you would like to review a book.

- The Dry by Jane Harper
- Erebus: The Story of a Ship by Michael Palin
- Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

Emma’s recommendation

I have finally finished the sixth book in the Gone Series by Michael Grant. It was a real gem of a series and I was hooked from the first chapter.
I often go to the Young Adult section to find my next dystopian read. I turn to these books when real life is intense, and I want something that will keep me engrossed in my reading.
It’s a series where you can really get lost and immerse yourself in the world of the characters. Whilst I delved into the lives of those surviving in the FAYZ, as it is called, I felt like real life had paused. You do need to suspend reality as you read. If you can then you will be in for a treat of mystery, monsters, super powers and a good dose of human emotion.
I now have the next 3 books to read, which are set 4 years after the sixth book of the series. I am holding off from starting them simply because I don’t want my time in their world to end so soon! – Emma
