Every year we celebrate the best week of the year – Libraries Week. This post will reach you right in the middle of it!
Libraries Week is an annual showcase and celebration of the best that libraries have to offer. In 2022, Libraries Week takes place between the 3rd and 9th October, celebrating the nation’s much-loved libraries and the central role that libraries play in supporting life-long learning. We believe libraries can be central in inspiring learning for all and helping individuals to unlock and fulfil their potential at every stage of life.
School visit at St John’s school

Our colleague Molly visited one of our Summer Reading Challenge pilot schools – St John’s school. Tuesday morning started with a special ceremony where everyone who completed the Summer Reading Challenge received their medals. The excitement was in the air when Molly pulled out huge certificates and stacks of new books for each class.
Lifelong Learning with the Dorking U3A
We invited everyone to Lifelong Learning with the Dorking U3A (the University of the Third Age) on Tuesday evening. Members of Dorking’s U3A gave short talks on different subjects and the importance of lifelong learning.
The U3A is an international movement whose aims are the education and stimulation of mainly retired members of the community – those in their third ‘age’ of life. We heard from different presenters on the importance of lifelong learning and covered subjects such as Creative Writing, Archaeology, Gardening and Card Games.

Storytime with Dapper & Suave
This morning (6th October) we had a fabulous storytime with local legends Dapper & Suave. They read their brilliant children’s book, ‘Alex Looks His Best’. After the story we invited everyone to help us give our peacock feathers. It is now proudly hanging in our children’s area, make sure to check it out next time you visit us.

Yoga as a Philosophy
If you are reading this early, you might be able to join us for the talk on Thursday 6th October at 6pm.

Kerry is a Certified RYS (Registered Yoga School) 200hr Teacher, Certified Breathing Coach and Certified Mental Health First Aider.
We are thrilled to have her at Dorking Library as part of our Libraries Week celebrations and ahead of World Mental Health Day on the 10th October.
